Brooklyn Bridge Video: “Occupy Wall Street/Occupy Earth” Light Show

Today, Occupy Wall Street held demonstrations throughout New York City. Reports are that 30,000 plus people participated.

One of the exciting, creative, nonviolent moments was when occupiers projected a huge, light show onto the nearby Verizon Building, to the delight of fellow marchers on the Brooklyn Bridge. What a great moment for the 99%.

People Have The Power, by Patti Smith, is the Peace Song for Thursday, November 19th. The Duke and Duchess would like to dedicate this song to all of the occupiers who celebrated #N17 by freeing themselves and NYC.

Stand in the place where you are: Peace Song for 11/15/2011

“Stand” by R.E.M. is the Peace Song of the Day for November 15th. The Duke and Duchess of Peace would like to dedicate this song to the folks occupying Liberty Square in NYC. Last night, they lost a lot of supplies, and thousands of books, because the city and the police tried to stop them from redressing their government.

Support and strength to Occupy Wall Street to stand firm at Liberty Square. Support and strength to all the occupiers, who are nobly using nonviolent action to promote democracy and social justice.

Thursday, November 17th is an International Day of Action. Folks in New York City will be trying to occupy the whole city and the subways.

Some Fun From Around The World: Peace Song for 11/14/2011

“Everybody Loves A Saturday Night” was the Peace Song of the Day for Monday, November 14th. You can find this song, with the verses for it in 20 different world languages, in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 85.

Why is such a simple song, with no political message a “peace song”? Well, partly, just because singing it brings joy! Also, this song is often taught in many languages. So, it is a way to create harmony by celebrating other languages and cultures.

“Take It From Dr. King”, by Pete Seeger, is The Peace Song of the Day for November 12th. This song is the ultimate celebration of nonviolent activism for social change. It tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, the bus boycott, and The Civil Rights movement. It also has the somewhat tense, but poignantly necessary line, “Drop the gun.”

Where’s My Apple Pie” by Joan Baez is the Peace Song of the Day for November 11th. (Yes, we are announcing it a day late. But, some folks were singing it yesterday.)
