Danny Glover at Occupy Oakland: Re-imagining democracy and humanity

Danny Glover made the speech of a lifetime — the speech of our lifetime — at Occupy Oakland on October 15th. Listening to the speech has sent Duchess Susanna into a fit of hopeful tears, such as one experiences during the happy ending of a momentous film.

The entire video, and all of Danny Glover’s words, are worth experiencing and absorbing. Please watch it! Below, The Duchess has inscribed in text some of the quotes that she was able to capture and type out this morning.

“I will not fight your war,” said the child and he stood: Peace Song for 11/10/2011

The Bell” by Stephan Said (aka Stephan Smith) is the Peace Song of the Day for November 10th. This song was created back in 2002, in response to the Iraq War. Unfortunately, it is still relevant today, on a variety of levels.

The video below includes vocals by Stephan Said and Pete Seeger.

Come on Wall Street: Peace Song for 11/9/2011

I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ To Die Rag”  by Joe McDonald is the Peace Song of the Day for November 9th. (Posting it today as a catchup session for the daily song.) You can find the words to this song in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 160.

The most famous version is the one performed at Woodstock by Country Joe and The Fish. The video below is a cover, posted at Youtube. (It adds a mention of Iraq).

As the season turns: Peace Song for 11/8/2011

Turn, Turn, Turn” by Pete Seeger is the Peace Song of the Day for November 8th. (Yes, dear readers, I missed a couple of days and am playing catch up!) You can find the words to “Turn, Turn, Turn” — which are adapted from The Bible, Book of Ecclesiastes — on page 228 of the Rise Up Singing songbook.

I am dedicating this song to everyone who feels funny, anxious, excited, or depressed by the changing of seasons and the clocks being adjusted. Take care of yourself, talk to someone if you need to, and realize it is all part of a glorious cycle!

Work for peace: Vote for peace!

Tuesday, November 8, 2011 is [was] Election Day in the USA. To all of our American readers: Please vote!

Peace Child at Occupy Wall Street
Make a sign for peace! Mark it on your election ballot, and wave it at your local elected officials and Board of Elections workers!

Do you have a candidate you know who campaigns for peace? How about a candidate who is associated with a political party that promotes peace? (For real, like “antiwar” is in their party platform!) Consider voting for that candidate.

If you do not, you can still take this chance to vote for peace by doing a write in! Continue reading Work for peace: Vote for peace!
