Sweet Honey in the Rock in NYC on March 5th!


The Grammy award winning female a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock is touring to promote their latest album release Sweet Honey in the Rock: A Tribute-Live! Jazz at Lincoln Center. Sweet Honey in the Rock will be at the BB King Blues Club in New York City on March 5, 2013 for two shows.

Philip Glass at Lincoln Center with the occupation: Three videos and the full text

Composer and musician Philip Glass made a statement at Lincoln Center. His opera, Satyagraha, about Gandhi and nonviolent social change, had just been performed. Glass used The People’s Mic (Mic Check) to make comments to the assembled Occupy Wall Street activists and opera goers. Below are three videos from different perspectives, and the full text.

Occupy Museums Goes to the Lincoln Center

What: A General Assembly at 10:30 (at night) at Lincoln Center.

Join us in an open conversation about the effects of increased privatization and corporatization of all aspects of society, and the use of nonviolent civil disobedience around the world to reclaim the commons. Exciting news! Who do you know in New York City who would love to see a little folk music history? Tonight, Friday 10/21/2011 at Columbus Circle around midnight.

Iconic folk singer Pete Seeger and his grandson Tao will become the latest notable musicians to march in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street protesters when they join up with the crowd tonight.

The march departs at 10:30 p.m. by Peter Jay Shape Theatre on Broadway and is expected to wrap up at midnight at Columbus Circle, where folk musicians are planning to stage a midnight occupation.

The march follows a performance featuring Pete Seeger and Tao Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and Suzanne Vega.

We Shall Not Be Moved: Peace Song for 10/5/2011

“We Shall Not Be Moved” is the Royal Peace Song of the Day for Wednesday, October 5th. Duchess Susanna would like to dedicate this song to the folks who will be moving and marching in NYC today. You can find the full lyrics, and added verses, and some verses in Spanish, in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 260.

Below is a video of this song, performed at Day 16 of Occupy Wall Street. Peter Yarrow led the group, on a day that also included inspiration from Democracy Now! journalist Amy Goodman.
