A dream of paradise: Peace Song for 8/16/2011

“Andorra” aka “I Want To Go To Andorra” is the Royal Peace Song of the Day for Tuesday, August 16th. The song was written by Malvina Reynolds. Pete Seeger has recorded the song, and added verses. You can find the lyrics in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 158. And, you can buy a copy of Rise Up Singing at Powell’s book store: here.

Here is a youtube performance of “Andorra” by Raymond Crooke:

Excerpt from the lyrics:

I want to go to Andorra, Andorra, Andorra
I want to go to Andorra, it’s a place that I adore
They spent $4 & 90 cents on armaments & their defense
Did you ever hear of such confidence?
Andorra, hip hurrah!

…They haven’t got room in their tiny land for armies to march about
And if anyone comes with a war budget, they throw the rascals out

The Royal Song of the Day is a project of Duke Augustus and Duchess Susanna, The Duke and Duchess of Peace. The Duke and Duchess recognize that one of the paths to peace is to find soulful and nonviolent entertainment, and to express oneself with art and song.

  1. This might not be the largest Country in the World, but I think it is the most cleanest. One way you can measure the growth of somewhere is the measure it’s music. There is little doubt that this place exceeds other countries away. I wouldn’t want to spend too much time there, but a year or four would be pretty cool.
