I Think As I Please: Peace Song for 10/19/2011

“Die Gedanken Sind Frei”, “I Think As I Please”, is the Peace Song for Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Duchess Susanna would like to dedicate this song about freedom of expression to author Naomi Wolf, and everyone else who has been arrested for their activism during the occupations.

You can find English words to “Die Gedanken Sind Frei” by Arthur Kevess at Rise Up Singing (available for purchase: here). I stumbled upon the song in a library book, “Songs That Changed The World” by Wanda Willson Whitman. The words at the bottom of this post are based on a Pete Seeger version of the song.

Has Your #Peace Group Joined #AfghanistanTuesday ?

Duke Augustus believes #AfghanistanTuesday is an effective way for your Peace Group to bring attention to the 10- year war the US is conducting in Afghanistan.  The US corporate media ignores any protests against the war, and even ignores that a war is going on.  The best way to stop the war is to bring the issue directly to thecitizens.  if you are not familiar with Twitter, they track search terms with a “#” before them, and report which ones are “tracking” meaning they are getting a lot of tweets.

Royal Song of the Day: Sunday, July 31, 2011

Easy AnthemsGo Back To Pittsburgh by Easy Anthems is the Royal Song of the Day.   Like the lives of the Duke and Duchess of Peace, this is a song that mixes the personal and the political. Unlike the relationship of Duke Augustus and Duchess Susanna, this is a  break-up song. (Duke Augustus has often said that their marriage is forever.) The song voices the feeling of an activist who is leaving a personal relationship and the activism bound up with it, but is struggling not to leave his moral convictions.

Listen to the whole song for the pay-off. The video features a stripped-down, acoustic version of the band.  Is that the Duchess’ voice at the end? Continue reading Royal Song of the Day: Sunday, July 31, 2011

Book of the Week: Your Money or Your Life

we make a dying at work so we can live it up on the weekend

Duke Augustus writes: Your Money or Your Life: 9 Steps to Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence: Revised and Updated for the 21st Century by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez sparked the modern simplicity movement. It remains one of the pre-eminent sources for how to create financial freedom by separating your needs from your wants. This is not a get rich quick scheme. It is the progeny of Thoreau’s On Walden Pond. The Harvard-educated Thoreau freed himself from the business world by by taking the extraordinary measure of changing his life from pencil manufacturer to squatter. Dominguez and Robin suggest a less drastic change by helping you re-direct your prosperity from consumer driven wants to enough wealth to stop working.
