For children and adults who cherish peace: “Little Drops of Water” is Peace Song for 4/23/2012

(On 4/17/2013, we dedicated “Little Drops of Water” as a song of healing and peace to the Boston Marathon community.)

Little Drops of Water” is the Peace Song of the Day for April 23, 2012. It is a traditional song from England. I first discovered this song in the collection, Singing Bee!, compiled by Jane Hart.

I could not resist making my own verse for this song which clearly states the need for “peace”. Below my video are other versions and resources for the “Little Drops of Water” song.

“Lay Down Your Arms” by Doron Levinson is the Peace Song of the Day for 3/16/2012. This song is about an appeal to God. Though, it could be written or expressed as a meditation, or a wish sent out to the universe. Some of the images are profound and beautiful.

The Color Song by Patricia Shi is the Peace Song of the Day for January 4th. You can find the lyrics and chords to this song in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 238. The song uses child-like images and simplicity to share an important message about diversity.

“One More Step” by Sydney Carter is the Peace Song of the Day for December 31st. You can find the words and chords in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 235.  It is a hymn. Though, it’s references to the almighty are vague enough, that it could be enjoyed by people of all creeds, faiths, or philosophies. The words give inspiration for moving forward in the New Year with love and courage

Getting Together: Peace Song for 12/24/2011 (catch-up)

Duchess Susanna writes: Hold on tight folks! Lots of songs coming through today…While the Duke and Duchess of Peace share responsibility for Peace Song of the Day, since The Duke currently has the more serious day job, The Duchess is in charge of keeping things up around here. You may have noticed that she (me) missed a few days. Well, here goes…Peace Song announcements for a lot of the days that have passed by too quickly…

The More We Get Together” is the Peace Song of the Day for December 24th . It is a traditional song, popularized by the children’s singer Raffi. It can be found in the Rise Up Singing songbook on page 240. Singing this song would be a wonderful way to celebrate the crowd at a demonstration. Or, you could change or add lyrics as the basis for a topical song to make a specific point.
