"Get Together" in the Village

Get Together by The Youngbloods is the Song of the Day.  This was a wedding song of the Duke and Duchess of Peace.  It was performed by their friends at a waterside ceremony.  All the killing and death in the world made me yearn for a life-affirming song about peace, unity and harmony.

C’mon people now,
Smile on your brother
Ev’rybody get together
Try and love one another right now

Wikipedia has a fascinating history for this song.  The Kingston Trio was the first to record it.  Then the Jefferson Airplane.  it was performed by Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, and Nick Drake before the Youngbloods recorded it. The Youngbloods version did not become a hit until two years after it was released when The National Conference of Christians and Jews distributed it to radio and TV stations to support Brotherhood Week. “Following the September 11 terrorist attacks, the media conglomerate company, Clear Channel Communications, included The Youngbloods’ version of the song on a list of “lyrically questionable” songs that was sent to its 1200 radio stations in the United States.”
