“Final Straw” by Michael Stipe/REM is the Peace Song of the Day for February 3rd. While this song does not name or assert “peace”, still, it is a good song about what a person of peace needs to do in a time of war.
“Stand” by R.E.M. is the Peace Song of the Day for November 15th. The Duke and Duchess of Peace would like to dedicate this song to the folks occupying Liberty Square in NYC. Last night, they lost a lot of supplies, and thousands of books, because the city and the police tried to stop them from redressing their government.
Support and strength to Occupy Wall Street to stand firm at Liberty Square. Support and strength to all the occupiers, who are nobly using nonviolent action to promote democracy and social justice.
Thursday, November 17th is an International Day of Action. Folks in New York City will be trying to occupy the whole city and the subways.
There are so many layers of feelings to be dealt with concerning the events of 9-11-2001. And, so many lessons to be learned. The Duke and Duchess considered writing some reflective pieces on 9-11, which contradict the usual storyline presented by the media.
Though, we realized that so many people are still genuinely caught up in fear and mourning. So, we decided to be gentle, and chose a song for the day that matched the simple, core truth: 9-11 was a tragedy.
The Royal Peace Song for today, September 11, 2011, is “Everybody Hurts” by REM.
