I’ve Got Soul, But I’m Not A Soldier: Peace Song for 3/26

The Peace Song of the Day for 3/26/2012 is “All These Things That I’ve Done“, by the alternative rock band, The Killers (2004).

The song includes a great line for young people trying to resist the temptation of choosing the military as a career. There is a mantra in the song that goes, “I got soul, but I’m not a soldier”. For more ways to resist war, and resist military recruitment at school, you can see the Counter Recruitment page at War Resisters League: here.

Susanna, Duchess of Peace, writes:

Another reason I like this song choice for today, is that the video, taped in the UK, has wonderful images of young people. They are gathering together in a supportive way, as they walk down Brick Lane in London. It is a good counter-image of youth and sincerity to contradict some current frenzy of royal watching happening with the grand re-opening of a palace in London this week.

Let’s celebrate The 99% and the antiwar culture of England, instead of the monarchy and the trappings of the 1%! (Here’s a link to Occupy The London Stock Exchange)

Excerpt from the song
“All These Things That I’ve Done”

Over and in, last call for sin
While everyone’s lost, the battle is won
With all these things that I’ve done…

The (Royal) Peace Song of the Day is a project of The Duke and Duchess of Peace. The Duke and Duchess recognize that one of the paths to peace is to find soulful and nonviolent entertainment, and to express oneself with music and art.

We love finding songs such as this one, which can provide personal slogans and useful mantras for peace. “I got soul, but I’m not a soldier…”
