Don’t you wanna ride this Love Train?: Peace Song for 3/5/2012

“Love Train”, written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, and performed by The O’Jays, is the Peace Song of the Day for March 5th.

More about this song:

I chose this song, circa 1972, to match the vibe on Twitter, where “Songs That Will Always Bump” is trending. While folk songs are great activist tools, because they are often simple and singable, a little R&B does the soul good, and can help energize almost any crowd.

“Love Train” truly reaches out into the world by naming other lands. Mentioned are: England, Russia, China, Africa, Egypt, Israel. I also think it is wonderful that this song basically says “love” as a synonym for peace. (And, doesn’t it remind you of the Cat Stevens song, “Peace Train”?)

Excerpt from lyrics:

People all over the world
Join hands
Start a love train, love train
