Where your friends are waiting: Peace Song for 12/9/2011

The Last Church On The Left” by Sonny Meadows is the Peace Song of the day for December 9th. You can find this song on the album Tolerance.

There are many reasons why we love this song! Besides our admiration for Sonny Meadows, this song is also a tribute to one of our heroes. The song describes a favorite memory: Susan Blake, welcoming people to the PeaceSmiths Cofffeehouse. Susan June Blake, who passed away in 2007, was the long time Coordinator of PeaceSmiths, and a dear friend of Ian and Kimberly.

Excerpt from lyrics:

It’s the last church on the left
As you’re heading down the highway
It’s the last church on the left
If you’re traveling my way
It’s the last church on the left
Where your friends are waiting for
you to help them, put an end to war…

Peace Couple has an ongoing project called Peace Song of the Day. We find and list songs which inspire peace and justice, and express the value of nonviolence.

This week, we are trying something new. We are focusing on one, particular artist, who has written a whole catalogue of peace and justice songs…

Sonny Meadows is a Long Island singer/songwriter. We know Sonny from the activist trail. Over the years, he has supported projects to end the wars, support green values, help the environment, and ask for tolerance for immigrants. His songs reflect all of those issues.

Sonny has been part of various bands, including Blacklisted & The Banned and The Defibrillators. You can learn more about Sonny Meadows at his webpage: www.sonnymeadows.com

You can purchase Sonny’s CD’s at CD Baby: here. CD Baby is an excellent source for independent musicians to share their products with the world. And, if you click through our link, Peace Couple will get credit for sending you over there (So, thanks!).

  1. Hi Susanna,
Thanks for the info, I would like to extend my support to the Peace Officers whom responded to the tragedy at Virginia Tech. The gunman went into hiding after he shot one person. Since he made it appear to be a domestic only, he was probably waiting to see if they’d call it just that or put the school into lockdown. The point is this, if the school woulda went into lockdown, there’s a good chance they wouldn’t have been able to find the lone gunman & he probably would have finished it another day when school resumed. It appears he wanted to terrorize all: students, faculty, family, friends, sympathetic fellow Americas & the police. People attacking the police officers and making them feel guilty for his heinous crime would make the gunman happy. I pray for and encourage sympathy and reverence towards the officers (who also care deeply about this) as well as the victims and their loved ones.
    Keep up the good work
