You Can’t Kill The Spirit: Peace Song for 10/18/2011

6/27/17 Update:

Hi, Just found this post. Thank you for choosing my song. It has recently been re-recorded, the entire version on Vimeo under the title “Like A Mountain” Portland version. I resurrected the song in response to the results of the catastrophic election of tRump – a threat to all things good and beautiful.
Sincerely

Original post:

Can’t Kill The Spirit” by Naomi Littlebear Morena is the Peace Song of the Day for 10/18/2011, as chosen by Susanna, Duchess of Peace. You can find the words to this song in Duchess Susanna’s favorite, campfire, sing-a-long book, Rise Up Singing.

Everyone should have a copy of this songbook, just in case they find themselves at a folk music jam or a demonstration. You can buy Rise Up Singing at Powell’s Books online: here. (Powell’s is a union shop, and an independent book store.)

The above video is a unique interpretation of the song “Can’t Kill The Spirit” by neneohcs. His version uses a synthesizer, electronic sound style, paired with his own, sometimes ordinary and sometimes eerie photographs.

Lyrics excerpt:

You can’t kill the spirit
It’s (she’s) like a mountain
Old and strong
It (she) lives on and on…

The Royal Song of the Day is a project of Duke Augustus and Duchess Susanna, The Duke and Duchess of Peace. The Duke and Duchess recognize that one of the paths to peace is to find soulful and nonviolent entertainment, and to express oneself with art and song.
